Benefield Line--January 2010

Hello All,

We've started research on the Benefield Line. Our objective is to get the line to Scotland so where we hopefully can further extend the line. The three figures below show you how the Benefields tie into our line.






We have done some preliminary research. We found some undocumented evidence that James Benefield was born in Virginia, 1765 and died in Indiana in 1839. He married Elizabeth Benefield Born in 1766 in Montgomery Maryland and died in Indiana in 1836. The following is the undocumented information:



Other undocumented evidence suggests that James Benefield and Elizabeth lived in Montogomery Ohio and had a daughter there named Elizabeth. The following is the undocumented information:

We have begun the search for documentary evidence and have found the following:

We found James Benefield listed in the 1820 Census. This census record indicates that there was one boy under 10; 1 boy between 10 and 15; one young man between 16 and 25; and one man over 45. There was one female between 16 and 25; and one woman over 45. Below is the census record:





We also found in the 1787 Census of Virginia James Benefield Census from Monongalia 1786 County Census, 1 Tithable, 0 Horses and 0 Cattle. Below is the record:
